This resource is designed to help parents and teachers give children the extra practice they need in reading short passages and answering questions to demonstrate understanding of the material they have read. The passages in this book are divided into three sections: fiction, nonfiction, and informational. Each gives students practice with the different styles and purposes of various text types. Within each section, there are between 5–7 two-page units. Each of these units contains a grade-appropriate passage and five multiple-choice questions that progress from simple recall of facts to a more advanced understanding and application of the information presented in the passages. The book ends with a practice test for each of the sections, an answer page that can be copied for repeated use, and a complete answer key for each of the book’s 21 total units.
